A volunteer-driven, community based organization committed to enhancing neighbourhoods

pictureOperating in the Lower Mainland of British Columbia since 1894, today the Association of Neighbourhood Houses of Greater Vancouver is made up of seven neighbourhood houses and an outdoor centre.

 

What is a Neighbourhood House?

It is a central hub for social programs and services and for community development and activities that strengthen neighbourhoods

It’s where:

  • Everyone is welcome
  • Where diversity is respected and cultures and beliefs are celebrated
  • Neighbours meet to make friends and work together to identify and address issues of common concern
  • Neighbours participate in a large variety of programs and services
  • People commemorate the milestones of their lives and learn life-changing skills
  • Children and families, youth, adults and seniors, people with disabilities, newcomers to the community and the country …

Neighbourhood Houses

  • Identify and work with residents of the community on issues of common concern.
  • Offer programs and services that address the specific needs of children and their parents, youth, adults and seniors, immigrants and refugees and people with disabilities.
  • Provide volunteers new skills and a place to share their abilities and talents.
  • Offer places where the local community can come together to celebrate ethic and cultural events throughout th year.
